LABORATORY EVIDENCE

DEFINED TO YOUR CONDUCTOR

We select tests to address the condition of recovered conductors, including ACSR and AAAC constructions. The scope is defined around the asset question and applicable test methods rather than a fixed set of tests for every sample.

Testing is undertaken using Conductor Labs laboratory capability and specialist technical partners where appropriate to the required scope.

We can help you select suitable conductor samples for the required tests and arrange collection from site, working with your existing field team.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES

01

Visual & dimensional

Conductor construction, strand condition, wire dimensions and observable deterioration.

02

Torsion

Assessment of relevant strand behaviour and integrity under torsional loading.

03

Electrical resistance & resistivity

Measured electrical properties with appropriate specimen geometry and temperature consideration.

04

Mechanical & tensile

Breaking load, proof behaviour and elongation testing appropriate to the material and test scope.

05

Grease condition

Examination of internal protection and evidence of deterioration where applicable.

06

Metallography

Material structure and examination to investigate damage or degradation where required.

07

Galvanising & coating

Assessment of protective metallic coatings on steel components and wires.

08

Engineering interpretation

Review of test results in the context of conductor design, service history and observed condition.

MECHANICAL TESTING

TEST EVIDENCE, NOT ASSUMPTIONS.

Tensile, elongation and proof testing can reveal changes in strand strength and behaviour. Test programmes are defined around the recovered conductor and its applicable requirements.

RESULTS IN CONTEXT.

Results are reviewed and reported with an engineering explanation of what the evidence does—and does not—establish about the conductor.
